The Medina Valley Panthers hosted a very talented Seguin Matador football team on Friday night for Homecoming. The Panthers started off slow as the Matadors scored first on a 6 yd pass. The Panthers answered back with a 19 yd TD strike as QB Ethan Dowell hit Tristan Stivors for the score. Seguin scored 2 more times making the score 7-21 in Seguin’s favor. A missed field goal attempt before half gave the Panthers one more opportunity and they didn’t disappoint. Cayton Chang, behind some great blocking by the O-Line, began the drive with a long run to midfield with less than a minute to go. Dowell then hit Stivors on a long pass to the 12 yd line. In 2 minute mode he then hit Zach Griggs on a 5 yd out route and Griggs willed himself to the end zone to cut the Matador lead to 7 going in to the Homecoming half time.
The Panthers came out fired up as Ethan “The Kicker” Hassinger executed a perfect on side kick to begin the 2nd half with Stivors making the recovery. One play later TB Cayton Chang threw a nice half back pass to a wide open Griggs for a 41 TD pass to tie the score up at 21. The Panthers took the lead for the first time as Dowell hit Chang on a short pass for 3 yd score to go up by 7 in the 3rd quarter. The Matadors would tie it up in the quarter one last time. Garrison Kindred would put the Panthers up for good this time on a 1 yd run behind the blocking of Tres Barboza, Andrew Garza, Jonathan Martinez, Dylan Carroll, Mike Kessler and Zach Whitley. MV added one more score this time with Adrian Sustaita adding icing to the cake with a 1 yd run for his 2nd TD of the year on his birthday! The defense led by LB’s Sustaita and Zach Silva along with safety Andrew Hitzfelder and DL AJ Lopez played lights out in the 4th quarter as the Matadors were 0-3 on 4th down conversions along with a great goal line stand to preserve the Homecoming victory with a score of 42-28.
The MV Panthers invite everyone to travel to Lockhart for their next district game on Friday night at 7:30 pm.
