On January 21st Medina Valley High School hosted the Area 2, Region 2 Business Professionals of America (BPA) Conference.

Of the 47 students from MVHS who attended the conference, 31 qualified for state, and four additional individuals and five teams were named state alternates.

"I couldn't be more proud of the students from Medina Valley,” said Laura Kohlleppel, a chapter advisor who teaches business and finance classes. “They demonstrated hard work and business acumen, skills that will stay with them for a lifetime."

Advancing to state with their individual first place wins at regionals are Michael Rodriguez in Payroll Accounting, Kymberlyn Tschirhart in Intermediate Word Processing, Ethan Zinsmeister in Integrated Office Applications, Katie Scheiber in Basic Office Systems & Procedures, Megan Barton in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, Kayla Essary in Advanced Office Systems & Procedures, Tanya Theis in Database Applications, Jolie Smith in Legal Office Procedures, Ashley DeCock in Administrative Support Research Project, Daniel Plaza in Systems Administration Using Cisco, and Leah Smith in Human Resource Management.  Michael Rodriguez also placed first in Accounting Mathematics Concepts.

Also qualifying for state in their individual events with a second place win are Erick Montero in Personal Financial Management, Lance Young in Fundamental Word Processing, Kayla Cummings in Advanced Word Processing, Sara Hecker in Integrated Office Applications, Emma Hecker in Basic Office Systems & Procedures, Victoria Gonzalez in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, James Masters in Database Applications, Anthony Garriga in Legal Office Procedures, and Micaela Ruiz in Medical Office Procedures.

Qualifying with a third place individual win are Taylor Seward in Fundamental Word Processing, Gabriel Tovar in Intermediate Word Processing, Natalie Shipp in Advanced Office Systems & Procedures, Terri Saldana in Advanced Spreadsheet Applications, and Robert Turner in Medical Office Procedures.

First place teams qualifying are the Administrative Support Team consisting of Carley Blake, Kayla Cummings, Kayla Essary and Tanya Theis.  Also, the Presentation Management Team consisting of Emma Hecker, Mikaela Martinez, Taylor Smith, and Kymberlyn Tschirhart.

Second place qualifying teams are the Administrative Support Team consisting of Elijah Macias, James Masters, Leah Smith, and Gabriel Tovar.  Also, the Website Design Team consisting of Jolie Smith and Anyssa Valle.

Students named as state alternates based on their individual scores are Marlena Cary in Banking & Finance, Jacob Barton in Business Law & Ethics, Raymond Hernandez in PC Servicing & Troubleshooting, and Meredith Jones in Human Resource Management.

State alternate teams are the Economic Research Team consisting of Nathan Bosier, Angelo Guerrero, Katie Huron, and Terri Saldana; Network Design Team consisting of Daniel Plaza and Raymond Hernandez; Video Production Team consisting of Natalie Olalde, Makayla Pursley, and Miranda Silva; Website Design Team consisting of Sierra Brown, Katie Scheiber, Kaelyn Winters, and Kelbi Winters; as well as, the Global Marketing Team consisting of Anthony Garriga, Josh Osterhout, Christian Wallace, and Christopher Ynclan.

Those qualifying for state will travel to Dallas March 1-4 to compete at the State Leadership Conference.
