Girls soccer began District play last night hosting Boerne Champion. Neither team managed to pull off a win, but both played their hearts out and left it all on the field.
JV Started off slow, unable to keep up with the quick moves of the Chargers. Ahlani Artis did manage to get the first goal of the game with an assist from Lauren Piper, but the Chargers' defense held the Panthers off for the rest of the game. Our defense did their best to return the favor, with goalie Anne Tondre racking up 9 saves and goalie Mady Gregg getting two of her own. Halftime score was 4-1 Boerne. In the second half we were able to keep up better, moving faster and playing smarter. Boerne only scored once more. The final was 5-1 Boerne. Stand out player of the game was Tori Juarez.
Varsity fared slightly better, keeping evenly matched with the Chargers for the majority of the game. The midfield worked hard to keep possession of the ball and the defense kept the back field clear. Halftime score was 1-0 Boerne. The Panthers came back with a vengeance the second half, with Krista Peterson final able to score one. Unfortunately, that was all the team was able to get past the defense and the final score was 4-1 Boerne. Aubrey Thoele racked up 12 clears, Goalie Natali Carrillo had eight saves, and Tori Schott had seven shots on goal.
The teams will shake off this loss as they prepare to face Marble Falls this Friday. Good Luck Ladies and GO PANTHERS!
